Brooke Wetzel

"It Will Be Called Montana"

About Brooke

Brooke Wetzel is a Montana native whose landscape paintings have been compared to the 19th-century style of Luminism, which focuses on the reflective qualities of water and sky. Inspired by quiet moments in nature—such as sunrise, sunset, or storms—she paints mountain lakes and rivers of the Northwest. Her work often includes small subjects that reflect the western lifestyle, such as wildlife, fishermen, horses, or themes influenced by her Native American heritage. One of her recent series, Women on the Water, celebrates women participating in outdoor activities. Wetzel’s inspiration comes from a lifetime spent exploring the outdoors through fishing, boating, camping, rafting, and hiking, where she looks for what she calls the “special effects of nature.”

Wetzel’s artistic journey began in childhood while watching her father sketch and trying to copy his drawings. Growing up in Montana and central Idaho helped shape her love for nature and the landscapes she paints today. Although she is largely self-taught, she continued improving her skills through independent study and mentorship from other artists. Her studio is located in the Bitterroot Valley near her home, where she lives with her husband and two children. Wetzel has exhibited her work in galleries and shows across the United States and has been featured in publications such as Fine Art Connoisseur Magazine and Art of the West Magazine. She continues to share her work through exhibitions and galleries throughout the West.
